The Police Administration has described as very alarming the position taken by some security experts in the country on the level of terror alert on Ghana.
According to the Police, the sort of analysis done by such experts where they analyze the trend and draw some conclusion that Ghana is at the brink of a terror attack is most worrying and can cause unnecessary fear and panic among the citizenry.
Some West African Countries in including Ghana’s neighboring countries of Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast have recently suffered terrorists’ attacks where some lives were lost.
Subsequently, Ghana’s national Security Council has put the nation on terror alert.
The Inspector General of Police John Kudalor has also advised Ghanaians to desist from Picking strange materials, such as ladies handbags from the floor since they could be explosives.
He further urged citizens to be more attentive to security in their communities to augment anti-terrorism efforts of the police, adding that information supply on suspicious characters in communities is key in the plan of the Police to fight the scourge.
Speaking on Morning Starr on Starr FM Monday, the Director of Public Affairs of the Police Service, Superintendent Cephas Arthur emphasized the need for security experts to pipe down in their discussion on possibility of terror attack on the country.
“The position by some security experts where they analyze the trend and draw some conclusion that we are almost there…we are just about the next to be struck etcetera, we are going to stay of this kind of commentary because extensive discussion of the issue in that direction will rather create fear and alarm.”
He added: “Very soon our wives cannot go to the market to buy foodstuffs to cook because we are going to pump so much fear into them and I call on discussants and security experts who comment on this matter in that direction to exercise some caution and let’s rather give them security tips like we give normal security tips about security so that we can all fight and not pump too much fear and alarm into people.”
