A Literature Teacher and a candidate of the Ascension Senior High School in the Ashanti Region have been arrested by officials of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) after they attempted to sneak materials containing solved questions to other candidates.
They were suspects who were arrested on Thursday were handed over to the police and granted bail. The two have subsequently been interrogated by WAEC officials.
Ashanti Regional Branch Controller of WAEC, Alex Bosompem in an interview disclosed that the Depot Keeper on his rounds during sitting of the Literature paper Thursday noticed another student who was not sitting the literature paper enter the exams hall and gave a sheet which contain written answers to a student sitting the exams.
“She was arrested and when questioned she led the depot keeper to a female teacher of the school who teaches literature who she claims gave her those sheets of papers which contained answers to the exams questions. She was also arrested and fortunately we happen to see also the headmaster of the school around we accosted him and we saw questions on his mobile show, so he was also arrested and sent to the police station”.
The police have since commenced investigations into the matter.
Three papers of the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination leaked with some students in the Greater Accra and Eastern regions reportedly had access to the oral English, Integrated Science and Social Studies papers between 12 midnight and 4 am on the day the papers were written.
The papers were in circulation through social media platforms.
According to the report, some students created WhatsApp group chats to circulate the leaked exams papers.
WAEC has for several years battled with leakages of its examination papers in Ghana.
Last year, the council cancelled five subject papers in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) after questions leaked.
The papers included the Paper 2 of English language, Religious and Moral Education, Integrated Science, Mathematics and Social Studies.
