AUDIO: I’ll lead a civilian coup against Akufo-Addo govt – Anyidoho

The Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Koku Anyidoho has predicted of a civil revolt to oust the Akufo-Addo led-government.

According to him, a strategically planned series of activities to topple the less than two years government will kick start on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 which will bring the government down on its knees.

A pressure group Ghana First Patriots is in the forefront of the impending demonstration in conjunction with the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) to show their disapproval over the Ghana – US defense cooperation pact ratified by Parliament last week.

Parliament on Friday ratified the agreement with the US which gives the Super Power ‘s Military unfettered access to certain sensitive installations in Ghana and also allows them to a host of facilities and wide-ranging tax exemptions.

But Koku Anyidoho in an interview on Happy FM stated that this decision by the Akufo Addo administration has courted the anger of the Ghanaian public and will pay dearly for it.

Somebody should tell Nana Akufo Addo that history has a very interesting way of repeating itself. On the 13th of January 1972, a certain Col. Ignatius Kutu Acheampong led an insurrection movement that removed the Progress Party in power. Busia was the Prime Minister, Akufo Addo’s father was the Ceremonial President. Somebody should tell Akufo Addo that history has a way of repeating itself, there will be a civil revolt, there’ll be a people movement. When President Mahama was in power, Let My Vote Count Alliance and OccupyGhana didn’t they say there were  

“There’ll be a civilian coup d’etate , there’ll be a social revolution. We’re starting on Wednesday, Akufo Addo will have a headache, he’ll experience stomach upset, he says he was to be President of this country, we’ll make sure he’s fed up at the Presidency.”

Background

Ignatius Acheampong was a military head of state of Ghana who ruled from 13 January 1972 to 5 July 1978, when he was deposed in a palace coup.

Acheampong led a bloodless coup d’état to overthrow the democratically elected government of the Progress Party and its leader Dr. Kofi Busia on 13 January 1972. He became Head of State and Chairman of the National Redemption Council (NRC), which was later transformed into the Supreme Military Council on 9 October 1975, with Colonel Acheampong (promoted to General) as its chairman.

He was later executed by firing squad.
