Health officials have confirmed the first case of cerebrospinal meningitis in the Volta Region.
The first case in the region this year was recorded in the Krachi west district of the region.
The Volta Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Joseph Neurtey in media interviews said the GHS has deployed disease control officers to the region and has also step up surveillance in the Krachi West district to contain the spread of the disease in the area.
This comes on the heels of an outbreak of the pneumococcal meningitis the Northern, Brong Ahafo and Ashanti Regions, resulting in over thirty deaths.
The death toll, according to health officials has hit 32 in the Brong Ahafo and Northern Regions.
Cerebro Spinal meningitis
Cerebro Spinal Meningitis is a chronic medical conidtion which causes an inflammation of the membranes of both the brain and spinal cord.
The inflammation of the brain and the spinal cord often results in a very serious infection and becomes an often fatal variety of meningitis caused by the meningococcus bacteria.

A stiff neck
