Konadu a lost sheep but NDC will not look for her though Bible says so – Asiedu Nketia

“There are millions of other people who think NDC is on course and has stayed; let her do her business and let us do our business. Mind you in every political party, people continue leaving and people continue coming on board. It is only in the Bible where it is said that when you have hundred sheep and one leaves, you leave the ninety nine (99) and go chasing the single sheep. In politics, you do don’t need ninety (99) nine, you only need fifty plus one (50+1). There is no difference between the vote of a king and a vote of a messenger, so at the end of the day, it’s all about votes…numbers , so you don’t focus your attention too much on one king or one doctor when you can easily capture hundred kayayees (head porters) to vote for you.”

That is the response of the General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketiah to the former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, who helped her husband, Ex President J.J Rawlings build the NDC party.

The former first lady who broke off from the NDC and founded her own party, the National Democratic Party (NDP) after losing to late President Mills at the NDC Presidential election, has consistently said the NDC deviated from the ideals on which the party was founded which is probity, accountability and social justice, hence her quitting the party.

She added that some persons hijacked the party and started running the party with different principles.

But Johnson Asiedu Nketia aka General Mosquito, has said the party will not waste time trying to mend their differences with Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings at the expense of increasing the party’s membership.

Both spoke to Accra based radio station Joy FM.

I cannot be threatened – Montie FM’s Mugabe

$

The embattled Montie FM political show host Salifu Maase, says he is being used as a scape goat because he hails from the northern part of Ghana.

“Because Mugabe is Tani (a person from the northern part of Ghana) and because Ntafuo are not human beings, he should be sacrificed, he should be silenced in Ghana so that we can leave them alone to do their work.”

Maase aka Mugabe is billed to appear before the Supreme Court following an official summons issued by the apex court in connection with an alleged threat to justices of the Supreme court that emanated from his Montie FM afternoon show.

He’s being summoned alongside two other members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Team, Alistair Tairo Nelson, and Godwin Ako Gunn as well as the owner of Montie FM over contempt charges.

 Defiant Mood
Just as the court was preparing the invitation on July 5, Mugabe was boasting on radio that he was not so special to go to jail because important personalities had been jailed before.

He mentioned former NDC ministers who were jailed for causing financial loss to the state during the erstwhile Kufuor administration, before inciting NDC supporters to rise up and defend the party.

“Nobody fears anything in this country. We only respect the law. When you go to Nsawam important personalities like Tsatsu Tsikata, Victor Selormey (RIP), Kwame Peprah, were all there. Are Alistair and Ako Gunn or Mugabe more important than them?”

Montie Scapegoat
He said, “Nobody at Montie has offended the law. They want to use someone from Montie as a scapegoat but they won’t succeed,” boasting, “I have said that if you fire a gun at me I’ll hit back ten times. If you fire ten I’ll fire 20. If you fire 20 I’ll fire 40. If they stop ruffling feathers the noise will also stop.”

Fighting For Mahama
Mugabe claimed the only reason he is in Ghana is to ‘fight’ for President Mahama, saying “I am in this country because of John Dramani Mahama.

“Sammy (referring to the stand-in host), you know my wife and kids are not in this country. I live in this country alone. I am living here because of the humility of President Mahama and I will continue to fight for him. If I will follow President Mahama and speak the truth and because of that I will go to jail in Nsawam, I will continue to speak the truth.”

Interestingly, President Mahama has unusually been silent since the assault on the justices of the Supreme Court by Mugabe and his fellow party activists who are all supporters of the president.

Inciting NDC
Mugabe said, “I am encouraging NDC followers to be fearless…I am asking NDC supporters to rise up because this is the time. We are tired of the threats. Some of us have gone beyond threats. I have been in radio broadcasting for over 16 years. I was in sports and saw it all.”

The Law
Mugabe claimed, “In this country nobody is above the law. Ghana is bigger than anyone in this country, whether you are a judge or the President or a lecturer. I want Ghanaians to understand that nobody wields more power than the entire country.

“Were we not in this country when someone said he had declared war? Did we not hear what he said that if you are an Ashanti and you meet a Ga kill him/her? Didn’t he also say if you are an Ashanti and you meet an Ewe kill him/her?  At the Supreme Court don’t we have judges who are of Ewe or Ga or Ashanti origins?”

He also recalled the claim by the Supreme Court judges that they would not sit down for the EC to plunge the country into chaos.

He accused the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) of dereliction of its duties and wondered whether the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) did not see anything wrong with that statement.

Cemetery Analogy
He said that “At the Awudome Cemetery, everybody has six feet. We can’t have more than six feet for Supreme Court judges. There is equality over there. We don’t have special graves for a judge or minister and nobody dies and is buried in the air. Everybody, no matter your status, will be buried beneath the earth.”

According to Mugabe, the 1992 Constitution was being turned upside down because “there is a group of people who think that they cannot be criticized.”

He posited, “The president goes on ‘accounting to the people’ tour in the Ashanti Region and his convoy is pelted with stones but nobody saw anything wrong with that. The EC boss was stripped naked by an MP and nobody, including the judiciary, condemned it…the GBA, Peace Council, Catholic Bishops Conference, Christian Council, never issued a statement condemning what the MP said about the EC boss. They are condoning Kennedy Agyepong’s reckless statement. He is walking free!”

Equalization
He noted, “Sir John insulted a Supreme Court judge on radio, Sammy Awuku, Stephen Atubiga, Gabby Assumen, all spoke on radio. On all those radio stations that they spoke, which of the hosts was invited by the Supreme Court? I am waiting for the summons.

“Sometimes the NDC people appear to be sleeping. The time has come for them to wake up because we can’t live in this country for a particular political party to run amok and threaten everybody. We shall rise up and match them. When they hit two, we shall hit ten, twenty for forty.

“It is only judges we feel their security is paramount. They were taking pictures of the house I live in and the car I was driving. Is that also not a security threat?”

“He said Sefa Kayi of Peace FM and Kweku Baako, all use Land Cruisers but it is no news for Ghanaians; but because Mugabe is Tani Land Cruiser does not befit him.” – Additional files from www.modernghana.com

The two Montie FM panelists and the radio host, Maase Salifu who threatened justices of the Supreme court will today, Tuesday July 12, appear before the Supreme Court to answer contempt charges against them.

The two, Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn during a political current affairs programme on Montie FM reportedly made threats of harm and death against the judges in the case involving the Electoral Commission and Mr Abu Ramadan.

While Alistair has come out to apologise and retract his comments, Godwin –  who is a member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team – has denied making threatening comments on the judges.

They are to appear before the Supreme Court later today July 12 following an official summons to explain why they should not be committed to prison for contempt of court for scandalizing the court, defying and lowering the authority of the court and bringing the authority of the court into disrepute.

But Lawyer for Godwin Ako Gunn, one of the accused persons, Chris Ackummey said his client is innocent and will prove their case today that his client did not appear on the show on the said date.

Akufo Addo does not mess around with material things – Rawlings

Halting Ghana’s slide on the corruption table
All I can do is speak up. I find myself in a situation where I have moral responsibility and no executive authority. I would have wished that my moral authority could have the same influence. But that is not the case, corruption has infiltrated our institutions and their leaders so badly today that they use some kind of lens to demonstrate that you can keep your moral authority, but this is executive power at work.

So all I can do is to critique and advocate for my people. I can’t hide it. And I believe that was how I won the respect from the larger populace, from both sides of the political divide. I have remained principled. My wife is still standing where she is, cut off from our party that she was very responsible in building up because it became corrupted from Mills’ time.

We now fight on the terms of the opposition or the main opposition party. Fortunately for them, they have a leader who is not known for messing around with material things. The situation is so bad. So unfortunate! This is why Buhari has to alter things. You have got to make it. He doesn’t have much time and can’t afford for inertia to set in or for the momentum to go down.

EXCLUSIVE: Kojo Bonsu likely to RESIGN today

This website is reliably informed that the Mayor who is under fire is currently holding a meeting with a section of the assembly members to inform them of his decision.

Kojo Bonsu has recently come under intense pressure from the Council for disrespecting them after he unilaterally removed the Chief of Amoaman, Nana Agyenim Boateng, who was Otumfour’s representative on the board of the Kajetia Market project, which is currently under construction without informing the king about his action.

Otumfour nominated the chief to represent him after issues of corruption and embezzlement of funds was leveled against Kojo Bonsu. The project has become a centre of controversy in recent times after claims that the Mayor had allegedly inflated prices of shops in the yet-to-be completed Project.

The Asanteman Council, in demonstrating its level of annoyance over the lack of respect for the Great King about a fortnight ago, slaughtered a sheep and summoned the KMA Boss to appear before the Council last Monday to answer certain queries brought against him. He however failed to turn up claiming he was sick, and rather had the Regional Minister, Alexander Ackon represent him.

The Chiefs considered his inability to appear before them as being disrespectful to them.

The Asanteman Council yesterday (Monday) issued a one-week ultimatum to President Mahama to remove Kojo Bonsu from office as they are unable to work with him.

But the assembly members remain divided and are angry over attempts by the Council to see the back of the Mayor, arguing that the chiefs have no right to dictate what must be done to Mr Bonsu since they are not the appointing authority.

President Mahama has also met key officials of the ruling National Democratic Congress to seek their thoughts on a possible replacement for Mr Bonsu.

The Electoral Commission has expressed its readiness to conduct the Abetifi by-election which comes off today (Saturday).

A total of over 43,000 persons are expected to cast their vote in 117 polling stations in the constituency in electing a candidate to replace the late Member of Parliament for the area, Peter Wiafe Peprah.

It is however unclear whether persons who registered with NHIS cards onto the voters register whose names have been deleted in compliance with the Supreme Court orders will be allowed to vote in the by-election.

The late MP, who died on Saturday, 21st May, was first elected as Member of Parliament for the Constituency in 2008 and was retained in the 2012 elections.

Today’s by-election is a mere formality for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate, Bryan Acheampong as he has no stiff opposition especially as the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has boycotted the election.

The Abetifi Constituency Parliamentary seat has remained the preserve of the opposition NPP as the party has occupied it since the constituency was created.

Akufo Addo’s only weakness is his meekness – Sammy Awuku

The National Youth Organizer of the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Sammy Awuku has described his party’s Flagbearer Nana Akufo Addo as unarguably the most magnanimous politician in Ghana’s history.

According to him, the three –time Presidential candidate’s big heart to stand extreme provocation has endeared him to a large section of the Ghanaian populace.

Nana Akufo Addo, a former Attorney General is leading the NPP into an election later this year which is promises to be keenly contested between the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition NPP.

Both President John Mahama and Nana Akufo Addo are currently on a tour across the country trying to canvass for votes ahead the election.

Speaking to Sit-in-host Kweku Owusu Adjei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM, Sammy Awuku stated that the Nana Akufo Addo’s passion to serve Ghana in the highest office of the land is borne out of his genuine desire to see the country develop to an appreciable level where lives of Ghanaians will be enhanced.

“Nana Akufo Addo’s only weakness is his meekness. He is so generous in an unparalleled way; he loves and shows that compassion. He said even in the face of extreme provocation Nana Akufo Addo stood tall at a time when party supporters and NPP legal luminaries were clamouring for an appeal of the election petition verdict at the Supreme Court in the case that traveled almost a year, even though it was almost like a split decision Nana Akufo Addo said for the sake of the country he was not interested in an appeal. He called President Mahama and congratulated him.”

He added: That time NDC gurus like Allotey Jacobs and Ade Coker praised him for that action and never called him a violent person, but now, election is just around the corner and so the NDC are once again scheming to paint him black in the eyes of the electorates and have said the country will burn if Akufo Addo is voted as President.”

Violence has broken out at the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) ongoing primaries in the Nkwanta South constituency of the Volta Region.

The violence, according to eyewitnesses, was triggered by three different types of voters’ register that were brought out for the conduct of the polls, thereby, raising questions about the credibility of the album.

The candidates, constituency executives, and the Electoral Commission all are in possession of different voters’ register.

The event meant to elect a parliamentary candidate to represent the NDC in the upcoming Parliamentary Elections has now been thrown into chaos.

Five aspirants including the incumbent MP, Gershon Bediame, are contesting in the Saturday polls. The others are Geoffrey Kini, a businessman, Dr. Felix Anebor, a political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Narayana Osei Nyarko Charles, a banker and lawyer and Solomon Bagme.

Over 17,000 card bearing members of the NDC are expected to vote in 90 polling centres across the constituency.

The three stakeholders, Kasapafmonline.com understands, are currently locked up in a meeting to address the conflict that has ensued as a result of voters’ album.

Armed security officials have been deployed to the area to maintain peace and ensure that polls are conducted successfully.

The poll was put on hold during the November 2015 nationwide parliamentary primaries by the party hierarchy for reasons they described as “strategic”.

Nana Oye Lithur gets me angry – Ursula Owusu

Women advocate and Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu Ekuful has strongly criticized Gender Minister, Nana Oye Lithur for being selective in the condemnation of unwarranted attacks against women.

According to her, the Minister is heard condemning attacks on women only when the victim of the attack is a sympathizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Hon. Ursula Owusu’s comment follows demonstrations against the Member of Parliament for Assin South, Ken Agyepong in the Eastern and Central regions after he alleged the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) Charlotte Osei exchanged sex for her position.

Ursula
Ursula Owusu Ekuful

The MP’s comment has been roundly condemned by the several Civil Society Groups and a large section of the public. Minister of  Gender, Children and Social Protection, Nana Oye Lithur added her voice to the condemnation and urged Hon. Ken Agyepon to render an apology.

But speaking on Neat FM, Hon Ursula Owusu stated that the Minister has turned herself into a ‘rabble rouser’ and mobilizing women groups to attack Ken Agyepong.

“As for Nana Oye Lithur, she pisses me off. As for her, she underwent the same training I had at FIDA and we don’t do politics with the gender activism training that we both had. If one does politics with that kind of training then the moral authority to fight for all women is consequently weakened.

“When I was attacked she suddenly went dumb but I thought she and myself were doing this kind of job for women, is she now getting to know that abuse on women is bad? Because of her kind of training, what she’s doing now is so offensive. She’s the one organizing women to speak against Ken Agyepong. If she had been able to do this consistently, I would have been at the forefront of such course to give it more weight. Today if she calls me for any assignment I will not go because she’s made me realize that she’s doing politics to favour her NDC party and not fighting for Ghanaian women.”

The exhibition of the Voter Register starts  today Monday July 18 to August 7, 2016, to enable all voters to check their names in the register.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has indicted that the exhibition would take place in all 29,000 polling stations across the country. This year’s exhibition would last for 21 days instead of the usual 14 days.

The exercise will also provide the opportunity for correction of the dates on the cards of less than 100 people whose cards were dated wrongly as a result of system errors during the limited voter registration exercise held in April this year.

Furthermore, the exhibition would allow all voters to confirm if their names are in the register, while verifying their details on the voters register, correct errors and omissions and objections to unqualified persons including minors, foreigners, persons of unsound mind and persons who registered with NHIS cards in 2012 but whose details may not have been captured in the list presented to the Supreme Court.

The 56,900 NHIS registrants whose names were deleted from the register in accordance with orders of the Supreme Court will be given an opportunity to re-register on the voters register.

She came to the apex court which ruled in a 4-1 majority, seeking interpretation of article 94(a).

The Supreme Court which was presided by Justice William Atuguba also directed the High Court to forthwith deliver a ruling in that regard since the argument of her being unqualified does not hold.

Dr Agyeman-Rawlings defeated incumbent MP Nii Armah Ashitey in the party’s parliamentary primaries in November last year but Mr Ashitey resorted to court to challenge the eligibility of Dr Rawlings.

The Supreme Court on Monday played the controversial audio which has resulted in a contempt case against a staff of an Accra based radio station Montie FM and two panelists.

Despite the pleas from the contemnors, the judges still went ahead and played the controversial audio.

The duo, Godwin Ako Gunn and Alistair Nelson who were panelists on the radio station have been cited for threatening to kill, justices of the Supreme Court.

Salifu Maase, aka Mugabe, host of the show on which the pronouncements were made, is presently at the Supreme Court to answer why he should not be prosecuted.

Counsels for the contemnors, George Loh, Nana Ato Dadzie and Martin Ampofo Agyei, pleaded with the court not to play the audio when the Presiding Judge Sophia Akuffo handed over the tape to the registrar for it to be played.

Counsel for Mugabe told the court that they are very ashamed to the extent that they do not want the content of the tape to be repeated but Justice Sophia Akuffo answered that the court intends to deliver justice, hence will play the audio.

A voice which sounded like Mugabe’s was played in which the person is heard saying the Supreme Court wants to sacrifice him as a scapegoat.
