Ghanaians must know health status of Flagbearers – Arthur Kennedy

A former flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Dr Arthur Kobina Kennedy has said  it is not out of place for Ghanaians to know the health status of Presidential candidates who scramble for power.

The Africawatch magazine recently published that the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo is in frail health following a diagnosis of prostate cancer, acute kidney injury and an enlarged heart since 2013.

But the opposition leader denied the report insisting it was a propaganda set against him by his opponents.

Commenting on the back of the report, the medical doctor-turned-politician wrote on his Facebook wall.

“As a nation which has suffered a Presidential death, we need to ensure that while we trust Presidents when they claim to be in good health, we verify that in fact they are in good health.

“This must apply to Presidential candidates as well. For the avoidance of doubt, I do not wish to imply that one needs to be in perfect health to be President.

“I believe that each President should have an annual exam done jointly by his physician and another designated by the chief physician of 37 Military hospital. After this, the two shall issue a statement affirming that the President is in good health or otherwise.

“This same procedure can be modified for Presidential candidates. Within a month of filing their nomination papers, they must have an exam by a Ghanaian physician who shall affirm that the candidate is of sound physical, mental and social health and fit for the rigours of the Presidency. Neither of these should involve making the medical records public.”

Failed Mahama Parliamentary probe: Desperate NPP forced terribly sick MP to attend sitting -Akandoh

The Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has said the Minority in Parliament in the height of their desperation to smear President John Mahama with dirt in the failed Parliamentary probe into his Ford car gift, forced their member who were severely sick to attend the emergency sitting.

The Speaker Rt. Hon. Doe Adjaho on Thursday recalled the legislators who are on recess to consider the minority’s proposed motion invoking Order 38(1) of the Standing Orders of Parliament and Article 112(3) of the Constitution to support their action in an emergency sitting.

They had proposed a motion calling on Parliament to set up a bipartisan Committee to investigate the President for collecting the Ford Expedition gift from a Burkinabe contractor, but that was shot down by the Speaker.

The Majority in Parliament was of the view that the proposed motion was just a complete waste of time and the country’s scarce resources.

According to him, the Minority knew very well that once a matter is pending before a Court of competent jurisdiction or constitutional body, Parliament cannot delve into the same matter.

Commenting on the issue on Peace FM, Hon. Mintah Akandoh condemned the Minority for their frivolous and unnecessary action which was not for the good of the nation, adding that the Minority was hell bent on nailing the President but failed woefully.

“I can tell you that a leading member of the Minority was carried from his sick bed and made to attend this emergency sitting which was a total waste of everybody’s time. Yes he was so sick but was compelled to come to Parliament on Thursday in anticipation of what the Minority had planned.”

He added: “We thank God that he brought us MPs across the country safely to Accra for this useless exercise and has landed most of us safely back home. Touch wood, if any MP died in an accident while journeying to Accra for this sitting, it would have really been a foolish death. Thank God we are all alive.”

Start your ‘one this – one that’ policy in the NPP – Asiedu Nketia tells Akufo Addo

The General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has challenged the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer to make sure his one-to-one ratio campaign promise is first implemented within in the NPP leadership.

The three-time Presidential candidate on his campaign tour of the Central Region recently pledged that his future government will build one factory in every district as part of his plans to industrialize and transform the Ghanaian economy.

He further promised during his tour of the Upper East Region last week that his regime will build a dam in each village in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Region if he wins the 2016 elections.

But ever since Akufo Addo made these promises, stalwarts of the NDC including ministers have continued to rubbish his intended policies saying they are simply impracticable.

Others have even described him as a day dreamer who’s desperate to win power hence has resorted to churning out unrealistic campaign promises to hoodwink the Ghanaian electorate.

But speaking on Okay FM, Mr Asiedu Nketiah aka General Mosquitoe stated that Nana Akufo Akufo Addo must show how serious he is about the implementing of his one-to-one policy by making sure that each elected National Executive of the NPP occupies one position.

“Akufo Addo is going round telling Ghanaians that I will give one this to one that, but this doesn’t work in his own party. John Boadu alone is occupying three key positions at a time. He’s the Acting General Secretary, substantive National Organizer and the Director of Operations for the NPP 2016 Campaign. He should make sure this situation is reversed, let Ghanaians see the so called one-to one policy working within the NPP. You can’t promise us something, while you and your party do otherwise.”

Akufo Addo VERY FIT… he has no cancer, no kidney problem – Personal Doctor

The Flagbearer of the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo Addo is hale and hearty and has never been a cancer patient, his personal medical doctor, Prof. Yaw Adu Gyamfi has stated.

His clarification comes on the back of the story in the August 2016 edition of Africa Watch Magazine which was headlined “NPP’s Campaign In Jeopardy…Akufo-Addo Has Cancer.

The US-based magazine edited by Steve Mallory claims the presidential candidate of the NPP Nana Akufo-Addo, is suffering from the life threatening diseases.

The magazine in its report claimed the NPP flagbearer was diagnosed of prostate cancer in June 2013, with a high Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) count of 89.9, very much above the 3.72 upper range it should have been, according to British doctors.

The publication has sparked once again the debate for the electorate to know the health status of all flagbearers ahead of every general election, especially following the death of former President Atta Mills who died in office after being sick for sometime.

But in an interview on News File on Joy FM, Prof. Yaw Adu Gyamfi stated that Nana Akufo Addo is fit as a fiddle, adding that the rumours about the three-time Presidential Candidate’s health is without merit.

“Nana Addo’s PSA as done in June 2016 is 0.03 well  below the fall level and is well…well below the 89.9 quoted in the article. He doesn’t have any cancer, if he had cancer with that kind of thing with that kind of thing, he’ll not be able to be run around as he’s doing.”

He added: “Then the articles goes on to say that he has acute renal problem injury, large heart and all that. When you have acute renal failure usually you are unable to pass urine, Nana Addo if anything drinks water freely where ever he goes and eats whatever is put before him. He cannot have any kidney problems and he does not.” Prof. Yaw Adu Gyamfi, stressed.

Akufo Addo will not dignify Africa Watch Magazine’s allegation with a law suit – Atta Akyea

Astute lawyer and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea says the party’s Flagbearer will not waste his precious time filing a suit against the Africa Watch Magazine for publishing falsehood about him.

The US-based magazine edited by Steve Mallory claims a leaked dossier from the Wellington Hospital in UK which Nana Addo is believed to attend to seek medical care, indicates he is suffering from a life threatening cancer and kidney disease.

The magazine in its report claimed the NPP flagbearer was diagnosed of prostate cancer in June 2013, with a high Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) count of 89.9, very much above the 3.72 upper range it should have been, according to British doctors.

The NPP has accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of being behind the publication which is intended to scuttle the electoral fortunes of Nana Akufo Addo and the NPP.

Some political watchers have called on the NPP to clear the hard earned reputation of Nana Akufo Addo by hauling the publisher of the Africa Wtach Magazine court, but that may likely not happen as  Lawyer Atta Akyea has indicated that the three-time Flagbearer is not interested.

Speaking on TV3, he said filing a suit against Africa Watch will amount to Akufo Addo and the NPP dignifying the baseless rumour put out in the public state.

“Nana Akufo Addo has not got the luxury  of time to dignify this hollow propaganda, he’s not going to do it. Akufo Addo is shaking hands in the North, walking briskly, no body doubts that, check out all the videos about his visit up North. He’s a man over 70 and if his energy levels are what he’s functioning by now, then we should thank God for his life.rather than use this thing to sort of create an impression that may be we have another Atta Mills at hand. It will not wash, he’s very robust, his articulation is sound, his mind is very sound and by the mercies of God, the wish they have for him will not happen; he’ll become the next President of Ghana.”

Meanwhile, Prof. Adu Gyamfi, the personal doctor of Nana Akufo Addo has dismissed claims that the latter is suffering from cancer.

In an interview on News File on Joy FM, Prof. Yaw Adu Gyamfi stated that Nana Akufo Addo is fit as a fiddle, adding that the rumours about his health is without merit.

The General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has said the party will not waste its time waiting to copy ideas from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), which he describes as losers.

The largest opposition party has stated that it is not in a hurry to launch its 2016 manifesto ahead of the December general elections to avoid the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) plagiarising their ideas.

The NPP has accused the NDC of copying their ideas in the past but have they will not give them the room to operate this time around.

The ‘Elephant party’ has alleged that the NDC twist ideas in NPP’s manifesto thereby making it their own, hence their decision to delay the launching of their manifesto.

Barely three months to the crucial elections, both parties are yet to launch their manifestos though they have indicated it will be in the Month of September.

Speaking at the Launch of an election task-force in the Volta Region, Mr John Asiedu Nketiah aka General Mosquito, dismissed claims that the NDC delayed its manifesto launch to steal ideas from the NPP, adding that the party doesn’t steal from losers.

“I have heard so many people saying that the NDC are waiting for the NPP before we release our manifesto. Tell them that we don’t learn from losers, we set the pace for them to copy. We go according to our own plans. We have selected our candidates, we are the only party now that has the full compliments of presidential candidate and running mate and 275 Parliamentary candidates.”

A Seventh Day Adventist Pastor, Asare Nyarko and his family at Asamankese in the Eastern Region were utterly shocked to have found a thief deeply asleep on a bed in the home Sunday dawn.

The 27-year-old suspect, was found half naked and fast asleep on the bed of the man of God having broken into the room through the ceiling to steal properties of the Pastor.

He and his relatives had gone to church and returned around 12:30 am to see the house in the dark as all the security lights in their residence were off.

Pastor Nyarko in an interview with Kasapa News, Kweku Opare Adesuokor stated that he initially thought the light bulbs had burnt out, but he later thought it impossible for all of them to run out at the same time. So it dawned on him that someone might have tempered with them and later proceeded to go round the house with a torch light to find out what might be happening.

He entered the house and realized that the doors had been forcibly opened and their belongings ransacked and so rushed to the police station to lodge a report.

However the Police failed to accompany the couple home but urged them to take pictures of the suspect for evidence.

Pastor Asare said upon stealthily entering their room with some Elders of the Church, they found the suspect deeply asleep in their bedroom.

“We went closer and found out that the bulb in the corridor had been removed and the meter had also been covered, which gave us an indication that there was an unwelcome visitor in our home.

“We then entered the house with alertness and searched through the room.  The first two were okay – so my wife was going to our bedroom and she saw somebody in our room. So we all opened the door and saw this stranger fast asleep on my bed. He was deeply to the extent that the noise the seven of us made could not wake him up. We had to shake him before he woke up so, we arrested him and sent him to the police station.”

That was the suspects second time of entering the house after a fruitful first attempt but he fortunately or unfortunately dozed off in the process.

The suspect, told the police during interrogation during that after the first break in during which he made away with some items, he went to smoke marijuana to energize him to climb through the ceiling but was dazed and fell asleep in the process.

Who would have benefited if Montie 3 spent the three remaining months in prison – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has defended his remission of the four-month sentence handed the Montie FM trio, saying he acted in the interest of Ghana; and in accordance with the Constitution.

The trio, Alistair Nelson, Godwin Ako Gunn and Salifu Maase, alias Mugabe, Host of Montie FM’s Pampaso political show, were sentenced after they were found guilty of contempt charges for scandalizing the Supreme Court.

President Mahama told Paul Adom-Otchere, on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana show on Tuesday, that he also considered the four-month sentence as harsh for the crime committed especially when the contemnors had showed a lot of remorse for their condemnable actions.

“I think that the overriding consideration must be that, all arms of government must act constitutionally and I swore an oath on the 7th of January 2013 to abide by the Constitution and so every action I take must be in consonant with the Constitutional provisions. The young men were called before the Supreme Court for scandalizing the court and even before they were called before the court, they had shown remorse; they had apologized for what they said and before the court they apologized again.”

“When they were sentenced in mitigation they asked for mercy; apologized and retracted everything they said. And even after they were sentenced and left the court and went to prison; they still in written and verbal form expressed absolute regret for what they did. I don’t know what benefit it would have been to anybody the three extra months they would have served in prison; I don’t know.”

Akufo Addo attacked me first…he called me a thief – Mahama

President John Mahama has defended his attacks on the Presidential Candidate of the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo-Addo.

The President recently on his campaign tour described Akufo Addo as a dictator and a divisive leader who is not capable of uniting his own party let alone the entire country.

A section of the public have criticized Mr Mahama for his comments against Nana Akufo Addo, describing it as unnecessary.

But speaking to Paul Adom-Otchere on Good Evening Ghana Tuesday, President Mahama said he’s giving the opposition leader a taste of his own medicine, as the latter has insulted him for years without a response from him.

He said Akufo Addo must learn to accept criticisms after attacking him for four years.

“For four years he [Akufo-Addo] has described me as incompetent, for four years he has described me as visionless, for four years he has described me as a thief. He says when he comes to power he won’t steal your money what does that mean? It means I am stealing Ghanaians’ money.

“I’m a politician and I know it’s an occupational hazard; sometimes to have your opponents vilify you so I don’t take it as anything… I am campaigning and I am saying that we need at this stage of Ghana’s history somebody who can bring the country together and my opponent’s track record does not fit that role because in his own party, he is not able to bring his people together.

“Today; it is the truth, people can’t criticize Akufo-Addo in NPP, if you criticize him, they will suspend you or sack you or his attack dogs will set on you. Ask people in NPP, they are quiet, they can see the bus is going to crash but if they say it they will attack them. So they are waiting for the bus to crash, and when it crashes, I said they will take the bus and send it to Kokompe to repair it and put it back on the road for 2021,” Mahama remarked.

The President added “he [Nana Addo] should learn to accept criticism, I do, people insult me, vilify me, I don’t utter a word. And so when I say you cannot unify your party so you cannot unify Ghana and I think that the kind of president Ghana needs at this stage in our history is one who can bring us together. And so you must prove a track record that you can bring people together and most people do not think that he can do that.”

The Asamankese District Court in the Eastern Region has set free a suspected thief who fell asleep while on an alleged stealing operation in the residence of a Seventh Day Adventist Pastor on Sunday dawn.

He and his relatives had gone to church and returned around 12:30 am to see the house in the dark as all the security lights were off.

Pastor Nyarko upon going round the house with a torch light to find out what might be happening entered his home and realized that the doors had been forcibly opened and their belongings ransacked.

He said upon stealthily entering their room with some Elders of the Church, they found the suspect deeply asleep in their bedroom, following which they made a report to the police. However the Police failed to accompany the couple home but urged them to take pictures of the suspect for evidence.

The police after their investigations charged him for unlawful entry and damage to property and arraigned him before court.

The Asamankese District Police Commander, Superintendent Appiah Anane in an interview stated that the suspect told the court that he had traveled from Oda, and because he was feeling very tired wanted somewhere to pass the night. He added that the suspect who was drunk then entered the home of the pastor which is an uncompleted building and found a place to lay his head.

The Judge, his Honor Ayittey Tetteh after hearing the case said in as much as the suspect entered the house unlawfully, he found no criminal intent in the actions of the suspect as he didn’t steal anything from the home of the Pastor when he clearly had the opportunity to do so.

He told the suspect to go and sin no more.
