This comes on the back of the ongoing strike by members of the Government Hospitals Pharmacists Association (GHOSPA) who have been battling the FWSC over unfair placement on the single spine salary structure, payment of market premium and poor working conditions for a while now.

They have threatened to hit the streets if the National Labour Commission, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and the government do not address their grievances within 10 days.

The Commission has already hinted there is very little it can do about the strike which has left many patients stranded.

A statement signed by the Minister of Health, Alex Segbefia noted with regret the continuing strike action has further urged both the GHS and CHAG to conduct inventory of all pharmacies to ascertain and manage stock levels necessary for effective service delivery.

“We are also pleased to announce to the public that the CHAG facilities are fully operational in line with their non-strike tradition. Accordingly, the general public could access pharmaceutical services in these facilities. We wish to assure the general public that the MOH would be monitoring the situation in the hope of finding acceptable and lasting solution to the ongoing strike action.”

The ongoing voters transfer exercise at Asunafo South in the Brong Ahafo Region was suddenly stopped following the invasion of unidentified thugs.

The largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of being behind the attack which left the driver of the NPP Parliamentary candidate, a former Constituency Chairman, Osei Bonsu  and three others injured.

The NPP has further claimed that the EC had some of the materials for the exercise destroyed.

Explaining how the incident ensued, the Parliamentary Candidate George Yaw Boakye said about 40 applicants had already queued and were in the process of having their votes transferred when the NDC also brought some persons to have theirs done.

He added that the NDC thought if they should allow the people in the queue who they perceived were NPP members to go through the process, it would be difficult for the NDC persons to also do same hence they disrupted the process.

The EC has confirmed the incident but has denied that materials were destroyed.

The Electoral Commission started accepting applications for transfer of votes from one constituency to another on Friday 9th September 2016. The exercise will end on Friday, 7th October 2016.

The National Chairman of the PNC Bernard Mornah has lambasted the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) for leaking documents of a car gift he received from Mr Tony Lithur, lawyer of President John Mahama.

He said he received the car following an appeal he made to Mr Lithur to support his campaign.

Mr Mornah believes the DVLA deliberately issued the confidential documents to harm his good reputation ahead of the elections.

“ I received the car from my friend and brother Tony Lithur after I made an appeal to him. I got to know him through the Free Tsatsu Movement, which he formed, and I was a part of. As his former student, I know he imports cars so I appealed to him during my campaign and he gave me one of his imported cars.

“So it was only proper that I registered the car in my name. But it’s obvious the DVLA has leaked the confidential registration documents to people for whatever reason known to them. And I think we should be worried that we cannot trust our DVLA,” he said.

The Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Samuel Ayete Nyampong has dismissed reports attributed to him that a massive number of Presbyterian ministers want to divorce their wives.

A section of the media published that he had claimed a huge number of reverend ministers have written letters to the Presbyterian Council seeking permission to dissolve their marriages due to unbearable circumstances.

He is reported to have disclosed this during the 155th Anniversary celebration of the Ebenezer Congregation – Kyebi, Presbyterian Church of Ghana, while talking about the need for Christians to truly repent from their sins.

According to him, the corruption and other issues facing the country are reflections of the unchristian and corrupt conducts of the followers of Christ.

These behaviors, Rev Ayete believes do not only ruin marriages and homes but wrecks nations as well.

Rev. Ayete said : “I presented a report to the general assembly on the number of letters that come to my table from ministers requesting to be allowed to divorce their wives, they are frustrated…this calls for repentance.”

He stressed the need for repentance among couples, friends and families adding that “In public [Christians] show themselves to love one another but they bear grudges in the various homes.”

Buy speaking to Kasapa News, Rev. Dr Ayete Nyampong stated that he was quoted out of contest, saying he was shocked at the reportage in the media as it didn’t represent what he said.

He disclosed that only four Minister have applied to the hierarchy of the Church to have their marriages dissolved, adding that these Pastors are currently undergoing counselling to make their marriages better.

“I wouldn’t have been worried even if someone reported that four ministers wanted to divorce their wives, but for someone to report that a huge number of Presbyterian are ministers seeking divorce is not true and unfortunate. I just mentioned this to show that even in the church not all is well with marriage and family life, which means we really need repentance. ”

He emphasized the importance for adequate time to be directed at marriage and family life to ensure it becomes enhanced in various homes as it contributes to peace in the society and the country at large.

Election 2016: We’ll resist any attempt by EC to disqualify our Presidential candidate again – NDP

The National Democratic Party (NDP) has vowed to resist any attempt by the Electoral Commission to disqualify its Flagbearer, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings for the second consecutive time ahead of the December 7 election.

The former First lady who’s Presidential candidate for the NDP picked her Presidential nomination forms on Wednesday in readiness for the crucial polls which is less than three months away.

The Electoral Commission (EC) less than two months to last general election in 2012, disqualified Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings after she reportedly failed to properly fill out her nomination forms and being caught by the deadline for submission of nomination forms.

E.C officials claimed Mrs Rawlings’ presidential nomination forms were rejected because they were incomplete. Her forms, reportedly, did not contain the requisite number of people from across the country to endorse them.

In other instances, those who endorsed did not sign them. E.C officials will also not accept a situation where NDP leaders allegedly decided to sign on behalf of those from various regions who endorsed her forms but failed to append their signatures.

But the Communications Director of the NDP, Ernest Owusu Bempah has stated that the party has mapped out its strategy that will make it impossible for the EC to disqualify Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings even if they’re hatching a plan to do so.

“This time around we have in our possession the diabolic plans of the EC against our candidate. That is why we announced it when we were going to pick her nomination forms. When we finish filling it, we’ll hold a press conference where we’ll show the filled form to the media so that everyone can attest that indeed it has been well filled, before we present the forms to the EC. When that is done, let someone tell us that we could not fill our forms.”

The Electoral Commission has pegged the filing fee for Presidential nominees at GHc50,000 while parliamentary aspirants will pay GHc10,000.

As at Thursday September 15, Fifteen presidential hopefuls have so far picked nomination forms to contest in the upcoming general election in December.

They are made up of 13 political parties and two independent candidates.

The political parties are the Democratic People’s Party (DPP), the All People’s Party (APP) and the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP).

The others are the United Development System Party (UDSP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the National Democratic Party (NDP), the United Love Party (ULP), the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The Independent People’s Party (IPP), the United Progressive Party (UPP), the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) and the united Front Party (UFP) picked their forms last Tuesday.

The Electoral Commission (EC) on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 started giving out nomination forms to interested political parties and candidates who wish to contest in the election.

I’m the governor of Ashanti Region…I’ll make life difficult for NDC during elections – Wontumi

$

Maverick Ashanti Regional Chairman of the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Chairman Wontumi, has described himself as the Governor of Ashanti Region, under whose tenure, the ruling NDC party will not make any political fortunes in the upcoming December 7 elections.

A Political and Social Historian and Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Dr Adu-Gyamfi, has predicted that despite the Ashanti Region being NPP’s stronghold, the party may lose its grip on the region in the impending polls if it allows complacency to set in and not mount an effective campaign there.

According to him, a number of factors, mainly demographic, were working against the main opposition party – which has seen its share of popular votes in Ghana’s most populous region slide from 74 per cent to just over 70 per cent since the 2008 presidential elections – to the gain of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), which continues to improve on its performance in the area.

He said the “migration” of persons, mainly from the North – predominantly NDC supporters – to the Ashanti Region to access economic opportunities was leading to a rise in the voter base of the NDC.

But responding to the claims by the Lecturer, Chairman Wontumi maintained that politically, he has a firm grip on the region which will make it practically impossible for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to make inroads in the area, which has remained a stronghold of the NPP since the beginning of the Fourth Republic in 1992 .

“I’m the Governor of Ashanti and will not allow the NDC to have their way in this elections. If there will ever be vote rigging in this crucial election, then I will rig the elections first, I’m telling you…I will do that before the NDC tries anything funny. I’m awake and have things under control. I’m surprised that the Lecturer has made such conclusion, that certainly cannot be the case.”

He also disclosed that he’s conducting an exercise to boot out of office any Municipal/District Chief Executive Officer in the Region who has embezzled state funds.

“I have all the papers before me and I’m scrutinizing them. Whoever has stolen state funds will be kicked out of office. I’m serving notice that we are going to Kwabre and you’ll soon hear what will happen there, the President can say he’ll not sack him but we’ll all see the outcome of what we’ll do. I just don’t talk, I back my talk with actions.”

The outspoken Regional Chairman, disclosed that he played a role in the removal from office of powerful public servants in the region including, the former KMA Mayor Kojo Bonsu and former Ejisu-Juabeng Municipal Chief Executive, Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh.

“Wherever your strength is, you use it well. We are in the Ashanti Region and the President is Accra, wherever our strength lies, we’ll apply it effectively there, the NDC is very confused that in the region.”

The Public Utility Regulatory Commission(PURC) has expressed its resolve to ensure that embattled state-power distributor – Electricity Company of Ghana(ECG) will pay the over 200,000 fine imposed on them as penalty for breaching the pre-payment metering vending laws.

Reports gathered by this website suggest ECG may not pay up the fine imposed on them describing it as unfair and capricious.

But the Director of Public and External Affairs of the PURC, Nana Yaa Jantuah said the Public Utilities regulator will be forced to go to court if ECG fails to comply with the order.

“We’re dealing with laws and we are not talking in vacuum. They should come and tell us it is not in the law, if they do that fine; we’ll test the law.We have systems that we run with and regulations…How do they feel that people slept in darkness-whatever agitations that they do, they expected some public sympathy but at the end of the day, the public that you need their sympathy, you hurt them. The public didn’t even know what was going on and even understand why the vendors were closed,” she said in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM Friday.

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has slapped the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) with a fine of Gh¢ 202,640 for breaching its obligations to power consumers.

ECG Staff vacated their post for nearly three days over government’s decision to privatise a section of their operations, a move that left thousands of its customers across the country stranded at their vending points.

A statement released by Public Affairs Director of PURC, Nana Yaa Jantuah said the GH¢202, 640 penalty also covers the ECG’s refusal to provide contingency measures to ensure customers of pre-payment metering could proceed to buy credits the industrial strike which was embarked on by the ECG workers in the first week of September 2016.

According to the PURC ECG breached LI 1861 and LI 1935.

“The PURC as the regulator of water and electricity services wishes to indicate that the commission has the mandate to protect the interest of the consumer and ensure the financial viability of the utility service provider and we will tip this balance carefully and equitably by using all the relevant Laws and Regulations available to assist us fulfill our regulatory mandate,” the statement noted.

The Majority Leader in Parliament, Alban S.K Bagbin has said the ruling National Democratic Congress can achieve its 57% of popular votes in the upcoming December 7 election, only if the party avoids complacency in its quest to retain power.

According to him, though the target is very achievable, the NDC needs to work extra hard to realize this objective.

Thousands of members and sympathizers of the NDC have gathered in the Brong Ahafo Capital of Sunyani, Saturday, to launch the party’s Manifesto for the upcoming crucial polls that promises to be keenly contested, especially between the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the incumbent NDC.

Addressing the teeming crowd, Hon. Bagbin urged members of the ‘Umbrella Family” to gird their loins for the work ahead of the election, which will see the NPP remaining in opposition for several years to come.

The unprecedented achievement is copiously captured in the Green Book, the right ideas, credible policies, intended programmes are found in the manifesto. With a galaxy of such capable messengers as our Parliamentary Candidate led by an accomplished President, John Dramani Mahama as our candidate, I’m more than confident that the NDC will win with a wide margin.”

He added: “The 57% target target I want to assure you is achievable, we need to work hard and have to be vigilant on the election day. But you know, with such a wounded elephant I don’t know what else they can do apart from to fight with desperation. But let’s fulfill the prophesy of Dr Arthur Kennedy of chasing the elephant into the bush.”

If you can’t protect your Manifesto how can you protect Ghana – Asiedu Nketiah asks NPP

The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has no business ‘bothering’ Ghanaians to entrust Ghana into their care to govern, if they cannot even protect ideas from their yet to be outdoored manifesto from being stolen.

The NPP has accused the NDC of ‘stealing’ ideas from political opponents after the party’s flagbearer, President John Mahama, gave a highlight presentation of the party’s manifesto Tuesday.

At a presser Wednesday, NPP’s Director of Communications Nana Akomea said after plagiarising ideas of political opponents, including the NPP, president is always found wanting when it comes to implementing them since he is not the originator of the idea.

But speaking at the launch of the NDC Manifesto for the 2016 election, the General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah aka General Mosquito, stated that Ghanaians will make a big mistake if they vote the NPP into power.

“I’ve heard our opponents claiming that we still ideas from their manifesto, so if we don’t launch ours they will not outdoor theirs. Even when we have outdoored our manifesto, they are still claiming we’ve stolen ideas from theirs which is yet to be launched. What sort of people are they, then it means they are people who cannot be trusted to protect a treasure. Then it means that even if they are entrusted with the seat of the Presidency it will be stolen, this is because you claim we you outdoor yours first, we’ll steal your ideas and so you have hidden yours, and when we have outdoored ours, you still claim we’ve stolen from you. Ghanaians must not make a mistake of entrusting Ghana into the NPP’s care.”

NPP “Pretending General Secretary” John Boadu cannot match me – Asiedu Nketia

The General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has mocked the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) saying the party’s Acting General Secretary, John Boadu is politically weak to face-off with him during media engagements.

According to him, the NPP acting chief scribe chickens out of media banter anytime he becomes aware he’ll be battling with him (Asiedu Nketia) either on radio or Television.

The Elephant Family’s substantive National Organizer, John Boadu was in 2015 given additional responsibility as the Acting General Secretary of the NPP, after the party suspended its elected General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong indefinitely on grounds of misconduct.

Since then, John Boadu who also doubles as the Director of Operations for the NPP election 2016 Campaign Team has been thick in affairs managing the party.

However speaking at the launch of the NDC Manifesto for the 2016 election at Sunyani, Saturday, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah aka General Mosquito taunted the NPP, daring John Boadu whom he describes as “pretending General Secretary to be man enough to engage him in the media.

“Tell them that I’m greatly worried that the NPP is unable to nominate a rep to engage me on live programmes in the media. I’m a General Secretary, they also have a General Secretary, I don’t want to be called to debate an issue live on Television alone alone, when I’m called they should also call the NPP General Secretary, I hear he’s called the “pretending General Secretary”.When we both meet on a programme that is when all will see which of us is the champion. You don’t wait for me to comment is the media, and surface to tell lies only after I go off air, that is bad.”

Unemployment for Nurses won’t surface in 2017 – Omane Boamah

Touting President Mahama’s giant strides made in the health sector and the opportunities created, he said over the next four years, President Mahama will build 35 Polyclinics across the country, as some of the projects are already ongoing.

Speaking at the governing NDC manifesto launch in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo region, Dr. Omane Boamah said both private and government trained nurses will have greener pasture within the health sector by next year.

“Under health, President Mahama is saying that he stands on a solid rock of achievement. And that solid rock of achievement can also be found here in the Brong Ahafo Region. Five polyclinic projects are underway. In the Ashanti Region, by the end of 2017, at least he would have added a 1000 hospital beds to their current stock. I am referring to the Military hospital in Afari, the district hospital in Bekwai, Fomena and Tepa, and other district hospitals all around the country. But that is not all, in the Greater Accra Region you talk about Ridge Hospital, Police Hospital, University of Ghana Teaching Hospital and the District hospitals for Madina and Kwabenya.

“…But the future is far more important than the past and the present. And that’s why President Mahama is saying that over the next four years, he is going to build 35 polyclinics across the country.”

“And all these Hospital projects will add 6,000 additional hospital beds to our stock and so if you are a nurse, whether private or government trained and you are looking for a job, the opportunities are right here; because assuming two nurses will even be assigned to each of the 6,000 beds, that’s 12,000 nurses to be recruited.”

Meanwhile, the Unemployed Registered Graduate Nurses Association has threatened to picket at the premises of the Ministry of Health next week to press home their demands for immediate posting.

The association, which is made up of over 1,200 professionally trained nurses from various public and private universities across the country said the Ministry has been lackadaisical in responding positively to its letters and calls for posting to work in health facilities in the country.

Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, has assured the chiefs and people of Notse in the Republic of Togo of a peaceful general election in Ghana, in December.

“I am very confident that we will come out more united,” he said. “We are a peace loving people and I can assure you that the voice of the people will be respected.”

The assurance by Togbe Afede followed an appeal by Togbui Agokoli IV, Ewefiaga of Notse, asking Ghanaians to be tolerant and conduct the December polls peacefully.

He urged the Ghanaian media, political parties and the Electoral Commission to work towards peace to safeguard Ghana’s democratic credentials.

Togbe Afede expressed worry about election disputes and conflicts in the Sub-region, which he noted were aggravating hunger and poverty situations on the continent.

He urged political leaders in Africa to shun greed and use the resources in their countries to create jobs, improve health and education.

Thousands of passengers will be stranded Monday morning as  a group calling itself Committed Drivers Association (CDA) begins its nationwide strike over the soon to be introduced operation of the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT).

According to group, the mode of operation of the BRT as it stands now will adversely affect their source of livelihood if it is not reviewed immediately.

Spokesperson of CDA, Francis Appiah in an interview with Kasapa News, Sunday, said nothing will stop the group from embarking on their intended action to demonstrate their displeasure over their unfair treatment.

“How can you say that where the bus works, we should’t work there also. We’re not against the bus working, but while it works, we should be allowed to also do our work. We pay road worthy, income tax, insurance among others so it will be fair to allow us to use the routes,” he said.

However, operators of the company have opposed that.

President John Mahama has assured that the $95 million project which started in 2007 will be operational on October 1, to boost the transportation sector.

Presenting highlights of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2016 manifesto at the State Banquet Hall in Accra Tuesday, President Mahama said as a result of the BRT project, a special bus lane would be created to commence the transport system known as the Ayalolo Express.
He noted that the system would be piloted in Amansaman [in Accra] and when it proves successful it would be expanded to Kumasi, Takoradi, Ho, Tamale and other regional capitals.

The 2016 Election Campaign Coordinator of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams has expressed surprise about the ‘noise’ in the media, following the popping-up of a coffin bearing posters of Nana Akufo-Addo, flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), during the NDC’s Manifesto launch in Sunyani.

Some young men in NDC T-shirts were seen carrying the coffin at the Sunyani Coronation Park parading it across the venue and were heard chanting songs against the NPP leader.coffin
While some view the behavior of the youth as reprehensible especially when some persons in the ruling party, have attempted to use the health status of Nana Addo as a campaign tool, others are of the view that, it must be seen as mere politicking.

The office of the NPP Flagbearer has not taken lightly to the act, with his Spokesperson, Mustapha Hamid describing the conduct as reckless and unfortunate.

But speaking on Okay FM, Monday, Mr Kofi Adams stated that the NDC never made Akufo Addo its target at the Manifesto launch but was rather occupied with selling its transformational agenda to Ghanaians.

“Without condoning the act, I must say it is not new in our politics. This is done in both the NDC and NPP, even sometimes it happens in internal elections. I saw this same act being done in our recent primaries in one of the areas that I visited. The carrying of Akufo Addo’s coffin, was mere symbolism and wasn’t part of our programme. The media is always quick to bring such things onto the front burner. Our focus on the day was selling our transformational agenda to the public which will see the living conditions of Ghanaians including Akufo Addo being enhanced.”
