Dumelo Ndc Campaign 2016

Some Ghanaians have questioned why actor John Dumelo was made to speak at the campaign launch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after the party’s founder, Jerry John Rawlings spoke.

Dumelo mounted the podium and extended a hand of invitation to Ghanaian youth, specifically affiliates of the opposition new Patriotic Party (NPP) to switch camp to the NDC because there are better opportunities there than in any other political party.

The decision to allow Dumelo speak after the former president got these attractions on Twitter:

Blame organizers for supporters who deserted Mahama’s speech – Kofi Adams

Organizers of Sunday’s Campaign Launch by the governing NDC has taken the blame for the poor spectacle that happened at the tail-end of the big event, after party faithfuls abandoned President Mahama while addressing them.

Several news hubs reported the thousands of supporters who left Mahama on the podium presumably from the speculation that they were bored with the long speech which was the last event on the bill.

But Kofi Adams interacting with Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FMsaid the actions of the supporters could be justified because of the communication gap.

“We the organizers will take blame for this situation. There was a huge challenge with Internet connectivity in the whole of Cape Coast. The Stadium could be said to be worst in that regard. I even got out of the stadium before I saw messages dropping on my phone which had been sent early morning. We announced earlier that those from outside Cape Coast should meet their bus before 6 pm. So that is what happened and you saw people leaving while the President hasn’t yet finished his speech.

“But our earlier plan was to finish the programme before six, however, other segments were added to the programme thereby resorting in this situation. That notwithstanding Mr. Mahama was ostensibly spoke to the millions of Ghanaians who were listening to him from their homes. Those who came to the programme were about 68,000 but the poeple listening to the president were in their millions. So you can’t just stop your speech because you feel the crowd reduced. Besides they were still listening from the speakers around outside the stadium. ”

The Human Rights Court has dismissed the case in which suspended Chairman of the NPP Paul Afoko was challenging the party’s decision.

Mr Afoko went to court to overturn a party decision that suspended him as the national chairman of the Dankwa-Busia-Dombo tradition.

The lawsuit started in December 2015, contended the constitutionality of the party’s Disciplinary Committee that recommended his suspension.

Mr Afoko was accused by his party of working behind the scenes to block the party’s chances of winning the December 7 elections.

The decision comes after an earlier petition by Council to the Disciplinary Committee that saw Afoko stepped aside until the 2016 general elections are over.

The oposition New Patriotic Party(NPP) welcomes the High Court ruling on Afoko’s suspension as the true reflection of the principles of rule of law and equality before the law which the party is founded on, Party leaders say.

“No member is above the Constitution of the Party. We are proud of these credentials. There are, however, no winners and losers in this case, as far as we are concerned,” a statement issued and  signed by the Acting General Secretary, John Boadu said Monday.

According to the NPP, any form of battle in 2016 for the party is geared towards ensuring that the flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo secures victory over president John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary polls.

“For us in the NPP, we are determined to rescue Ghana from the incompetence, corruption and insensitivity of President John Mahama and his NDC. We are united, disciplined, and focused on the 2016 campaign for CHANGE and equally confident of victory come December 7. We are fortified by the strong, popular support being manifested towards our presidential candidate in his interactions with Ghanaians across the country,.” the statement said

Afoko lost a legal suit Monday, August  seeking a declaration of the court to overturn his suspension as the NPP Chairman.

Below is the full statement

IT’S TIME FOR CHANGE!

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken keen note of the decision of the High Court in the case filed by Mr. Paul Afoko against his suspension as National Chairman of the party.

The High Court has held that the decision taken by the party was proper and in accordance with the Party’s Constitution and the rule of law. This reaffirms the truism that the NPP is built and governed on the principles of rule of law and equality before the law. No member is above the Constitution of the Party. We are proud of these credentials. There are, however, no winners and losers in this case, as far as we are concerned.

The 2016 battle is about the people of Ghana. It is about the over 70% of Ghanaians worried about the dangerous direction President John Mahama is taking the country. It is about the over 70% of Ghanaians who believe that the President has failed to deliver. It is about his 27% approval rating. It is about the killing high cost of living. It is about the President’s incompetent management of the economy that continues to cripple businesses and cost jobs. It is about the failure, under his leadership, of the real sectors of the economy, industry and agriculture, to perform. It is about the high cost of corruption to the situation of bad roads, lack of access to decent health, sanitation, and education. It is about how insensitive President Mahama has been to the plight of ordinary Ghanaians. Above all, it is also about the formidable leadership and alternative policies that Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP have on offer to get the country working again for every Ghanaian, and not just a privileged few.

For us in the NPP, we are determined to rescue Ghana from the incompetence, corruption and insensitivity of President John Mahama and his NDC. We are united, disciplined, and focused on the 2016 campaign for CHANGE and equally confident of victory come December 7. We are fortified by the strong, popular support being manifested towards our presidential candidate in his interactions with Ghanaians across the country.

To our members, let us see the decision of the Court not as an opportunity to jubilate, but rather as another reason to renew our faith in our cause and our commitment to getting all hands on deck. The overwhelming majority of Ghanaians are looking up to us and we will not let them down.

Only 6.6m voters verified

$

Despite the fact that exhibition of the voters’ register is very important in the electoral process, less than half of registered voters verified their names during the 21 days of voters’ exhibition exercise carried out by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Out of the 15.7 million (15, 744, 730) names on the voters’ register, 6.6 million (6,693,292) voters, representing 43%, verified their names in an exercise that started on July 18 and ended on August 7, 2016.

Head of Communication and Public Relations of EC, Mr Eric Kofi Dza- kpasu told The Finder that data compiled by the EC indicates that at the end of the exhibition, 6.5 million (6,566,049) voters visited polling stations to check their names.

127,243 Voters checked their names using SMS

An additional 127,243 checked their names using Short Message Service (SMS) short code 6363, he said.

The exhibition of the voters’ register is very important in the electoral process because it offers all registered voters the opportunity to check their names and particulars and also ensure that names of the dead and minors, as well as double registrations are removed and corrected respectively.

The EC has consistently said cleaning the voters’ register is a collective responsibility and that every registered voter must be interested in checking their names in the register during the exhibition.

NHIS registrants – 29,550 re-registered

Mr Dzakpasu said according to final figures, 29,550 voters, representing 52% of National Health Insurance (NHI) card registrants who were deleted, re-registered at the end of the entire exercise.

He explained that during phase one, which spanned July 18 to 28, 2016, a total of 24,287 voters, representing 42.78% of 56,772 NHI cardholders, re-registered.

27,222 NHI card voters fail to re-register

This means 27,222 NHI card registrants whose names were deleted failed to re-register.

Following agitations, the EC embarked on a phase two re-registration of NHI cardholders.

Mr Dzakpasu said an additional 5,263 people were re-registered by the EC at the end of the second phase of the registration exercise for deleted NHI card voters last Friday.

The deletion of the names was as a result of a ruling by the Supreme Court directing the EC to delete the names of all persons who had used the NHI card to register as voters.

However, the court also directed the EC to give such persons the opportunity to register.

“The deletion of minors, foreigners and cases of multiple and illegal registration is still undergoing investigation and adjudication by the District Registration Officer, that is the District Magistrate, before we can get final figures,” Mr Dzakpasu added. – Finder

A book opened by the Progressive People’s Party’s (PPP), which is compiling signatures to force President John Mahama not to pardon the jailed trio in the Montie 3 saga has been stolen by unidentified thugs.

The three, Godwin Ako Gunn, Alistair Nelson and Maase Salifu, were recently jailed four months for criminal contempt of the Supreme Court after threatening the lives of Justices who were sitting over a case involving the voters register.

The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described the sentencing as harsh with its members calling on President John Mahama to exercise his powers of granting mercy as enshrined in the constitution Article 72 of the 1992, to release the trio.

The NDC aligned group, the Research and Advocacy Platform (RAP) in a bid to ensure the President frees the trio opened a book to collect signatures to petition him. The book has since been signed by several ministers of state and other bigwigs of the ruling party.

But the PPP which is against the call on the President has also opened a book to mobilize signatures to counter the move. The book has been signed by several persons including the party’s Presidential Candidate, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom and his running mate.Nduom-sign-1
But executives of the party had the rudest shock of their lives when they realized that the book which has about 1,700 signatures and yet to be handed over to President Mahama has been stolen by three young men who had pretended they were also signing the booklet at the PPP’s headquarters.

The Chairman of the PPP, Nii Allotey Brew Hammond who confirmed the incident to Kasapa FM’s Maame Broni, disclosed that the matter has been reported to the Nima Police Station, adding that such criminality should not happen when Ghana’s democracy is advancing.

“But is this the country that we want? First we snatch ballot box and now this. God help us.”

Human rights lawyer Francis Sosu sues Obinim for flogging his amorous adopted son & daughter

Renowned human rights lawyer, Francis Xavier Sosu, will on Friday (today) haul the Founder and General Overseer of the International God’s Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, to court today (Friday) for publicly flogging his amorous adopted son and daughter.

According him, he’s convinced that the controversial bishop has violated the dignity of his adopted children and also dehumanized and degraded them, an act which is in contravention of Article 15 (1) and 15 (2) respectively of the 1992 constitution.

The controversial pastor ignited public outrage after he was seen in a video flogging the pregnant girl and her boyfriend. Infuriated by the couple’s lustful actions which resulted in a pregnancy, Bishop Obinim beat the youngman on his bare back with his belt before turning to the girl flogging her mercilessly in the full glare of his congregation.

During the beating session, Obinim is heard questioning the jobless youngman why he got the girl pregnant when he has no finances for her upkeep and the upbringing of the unborn child. The girl who was unable to stand the flogging attempts to escape, but she was held by a right-hand man of the Bishop to enable the bishop to subject her to more beatings.

After that, Obinim instructed his junior pastors to remove their belts and subject the couple to more flogging.

In an exclusive interview with Kasapa News Daakyehene Ofosu Agyemang, Lawyer Sosu stated that he wants the eccentric pastor to answer questions in court for infringing on the human rights of the ‘couple’.

We want the court to make a declaration that the conduct of Obinim in flogging his church members in the open violates their dignity, again that conduct amounts to a dehumanizing and degrading treatment, and also praying the court that Obinim’s conduct violates Ghana’s obligation under the UN convention on the Civil and Political rights of people. After that we’ll further pray the court that it restrains Obinim and his church from further violating the rights of Ghanaians in that manner because there are several documentations to the fact that Obinim has violated the rights of some of his church members in the past including stepping on a pregnant women ostensibly healing her.

Meanwhile, the The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has filed a police report against the founder and General Overseer of the International God’s Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, over the church flogging incident.

The sector minister announced on her Facebook wall that her ministry has filed the report at the Accra Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) Office for investigations to be conducted into the incident.

“We have been informed; that the Police have commenced investigations into the matter and a complaint has also been filed against him at the Tema Regional Police. We will keep you posted on further developments,” Nana Oye-Lithur wrote Thursday.

Also, Amnesty International Ghana has called for an immediate arrest of the Founder and General Overseer of the International God’s Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim.

The Founder and General Overseer of the International God’s Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, has said any lawyer who threatens to sue him for publicly flogging his amorous adopted son and daughter is brainless.

His comment follows the decision by renowned human rights lawyer, Francis Xavier Sosu to haul him before an Accra Human Rights Court Friday for violating the dignity of his (Obinim’s) adopted children and also dehumanizing and degrading them, an act which is in contravention of Article 15 (1) and 15 (2) respectively of the 1992 constitution.

The controversial pastor ignited public outrage after he was seen in a video flogging the pregnant girl and her boyfriend. After that, Obinim instructed his junior pastors to remove their belts and subject the couple to more flogging.

For this condemnable action, Lawyer Sosu wants the eccentric pastors to answer questions in court for infringing on the human rights of the ‘couple’.

But Bishop Obinim in an exclusive interview with Kasapa News stated that he remains unfazed by the threats of a law suit, and asked lawyer Sosu to get off his back.

“Tell that lawyer that he lacks sense, does he not punish his children when they go wrong? It is because I am a star and public figure that is why when I flog my children it is news, but I’m not the first and will not be the last. Because of the pubic uproar over what I’ve done, I will even beat them more and film it again. I’m responsible for their upkeep and no one can raise them better in life than myself. Tell that lawyer that he should leave me alone otherwise I will deal with him.”

Meanwhile, the The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has filed a police report against the founder and General Overseer of the International God’s Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, over the church flogging incident.

President John Mahama has announced his intention to build two new shea nut factories in the Upper West and Upper East Region during his second term in office should he be elected President in the upcoming December elections.

According to him, though a shea nut factory has been established in Buipe in the Northern Region, it is not enough to process the huge tonnes of shea nut grown up north.

President John Mahama made the disclosure when he addressed a gathering at Tamale during the inauguration of the first phase of the Tamale International Airport project on Friday, which will see the country’s second international airport being able to accommodate large aircraft.

He also announced his government’s importation of 500 new tractors for distribution to Ghanaian farmers to aid them in their farming activities.

According to him, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture will soon start the allocation of the tractors to farmers who are interested and have applied for them.

President Mahama stated that government has taken fifty percent of the cost of the tractors, which is testimony of his administration’s commitment towards the growth of agriculture in Ghana.

“Farmers who are interested are encouraged to apply for the tractors, and they will be required to pay only fifty percent of the cost of the tractors. We also have planters, harrows, threshers, combine harvesters for distribution to Ghanaian farmers.”

President Mahama noted that the work being done by his government on the agriculture value chain has seen an increase in local rice production from 301,000 metric tonnes in 2008 to 604,000 metric tonnes as at 2014, which is more than a doubling of the amount of rice being produced in the country.

The controversial pastor ignited public outrage after he flogged his adopted son and daughter who had gotten pregnant. Infuriated by the couple’s lustful actions, Bishop Obinim beat the youngman on his bare back with his belt before turning to the girl flogging her mercilessly in the full glare of his congregation.

During the beating session, Obinim is heard in a video which has gone viral on social media questioning the jobless youngman why he got the girl pregnant when he has no finances for her upkeep and the upbringing of the unborn child. The girl who was unable to stand the flogging attempts to escape, but she was held by a right-hand man of the Bishop to enable the bishop to subject her to more beatings.

After that, Obinim instructed his junior pastors to remove their belts and subject the couple to more flogging.

Bishop Obinim has justified his actions saying he acted on the orders of the Holy Spirit, adding that he does not see anything wrong with what he did and is not afraid to face the law.

His action has been roundly condemned by a large section of the public with some lawyers accusing him of dehumanizing and degrading the amorous pair. Renowned Human Rights lawyer, Francis Xavier Sosu on Friday filed a suit against Bishop Obinim for contravening Articles 15 (1) and 15 (2) of the constitution.

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has also filed a police report against Obinim for what they believe is an offence.

However the parents of the duo have urged the public to desist from condemning Obinim, lest he stops taking care of them, saying they will not have the means to cater for their children if Bishop Obinim should wash his hands off them out of anger following the public backlash.

Afia Bempomaa, mother of the girl, has said she’s very happy with the punitive measure taken against her daughter, saying the latter really deserved to be disciplined.

” If my daughter has done wrong, she shouldn’t go unpunished, I know Bishop Obinim meant well for her and did what any good parent will do. He chastised my child and that is in order.”

Madam Lady Joy, Mother of the boy, Elliasu, on her part said:”I am very happy that Angel Obinim has beaten my son, he was becoming stubborn and so it was good that he was disciplined, I was happy he was flogged. Enough of the talk, Ghanaians should keep quiet.”
